UX research

Understand how experts really work — before we change anything.

We research complex expert systems where they are used: at the desk, on the shop floor, on site. Interviews, usability tests and continuous research surface what manuals never explain.

What we research

Research for expert systems is not lab usability alone. We combine several methods to see real usage, real processes and real barriers.

  • Discovery & user research

Interviews and observation with experts who run the system every day. We understand their tasks, their exceptions and their workarounds — not a persona's wishlist.

  • Guerrilla field tests

Quick tests right at the users' side: architects, engineers, case workers. We go to the workplace instead of pulling them into a lab.

  • AR & wearable prototypes

Where operation goes beyond a screen — AR glasses, wearables, mobile devices on the shop floor — we test prototypes in the real context.

  • UX metrics

Pragmatic and hedonic quality, adoption and usage. We make UX quality measurable instead of leaving it as a matter of taste.

  • Accessibility

Usability includes accessibility. We check early whether experts with different needs can actually operate the system.

  • Continuous research

Research doesn't end with the concept. We run tests and feedback loops as long as the system is in use.

How we work

We start with the user, not the feature list. Understand the real flow first, then test hypotheses, then test the concept.

  1. 1.

Workplace observation: We watch how experts run the system today — with which exceptions, workarounds and interruptions.

  2. 2.

Interviews & discovery: We talk to case workers, engineers, architects — and separate what they say from what they do.

  3. 3.

Guerrilla tests: We test quickly and on-site, with a low threshold, so real usage becomes visible.

  4. 4.

Prototypes in context: Where needed, we build prototypes — including AR and wearables — and test them where they will run.

  5. 5.

Metrics & evaluation: We connect findings to pragmatic and hedonic quality, adoption and accessibility.

  6. 6.

Handover: We hand over findings, patterns and recommendations so product and IT teams can move forward.

Frequently asked questions

Do you only research in a lab?
No. For expert systems, a lab is often too clean. We go to the workplace — the shop floor, the console, the case worker's desk. Only there does the system show how it really runs.
What are guerrilla field tests?
Short, low-threshold tests right at the users' side — e.g. architects or engineers at their workplace. No elaborate setup, just real usage in real places.
Do you test AR and wearable prototypes too?
Yes. Where operation goes beyond a screen — AR glasses, wearables, mobile devices on the shop floor — we test prototypes in the real context.
How do you do UX metrics?
We work with pragmatic and hedonic quality, adoption and usage. The goal is to make UX quality traceable instead of leaving it as a matter of taste.
Do you check accessibility?
Yes. Accessibility is part of usability. We check early whether experts with different needs can actually operate the system.
How long does a research engagement take?
A discovery phase with interviews and observation is doable in a few weeks; continuous research runs longer. We sort it out in the initial talk.
